This page describes how Best Canadian Stocks researches and writes what it publishes, how the site is funded, and how errors are handled.
Nature of the content
Everything on this site is general information and opinion, published for informational purposes. It is not financial, investment, tax or legal advice, and it is not a recommendation to buy or sell any security. It does not take account of any individual’s circumstances, objectives, tax position or risk tolerance. Readers should consult a qualified professional before making investment decisions.
The author is not a licensed financial advisor and is not registered as a dealer or adviser in any jurisdiction.
Where our figures come from
Our practice is to take company financials from the company. Revenue, earnings, EPS, return on equity, margins, segment results, guidance, dividends declared and capital ratios are drawn from the company’s own earnings release, its Supplementary Financial Information, or its Report to Shareholders and MD&A, and we aim to cite the document and page alongside the figure.
We prefer these over financial aggregators and other publishers’ summaries of them.
Market data, meaning share prices, index levels, daily moves, market capitalisation, earnings dates and analyst consensus, comes from market data providers and is labelled as such.
Rates, contribution limits and tax rules are taken from the body that sets them: the Bank of Canada, the Canada Revenue Agency, Revenu Québec, Statistics Canada, Justice Laws, CDIC and CIPF.
Figures that can go stale are dated. Market and company data is accurate only as of the date shown, and we make no representation that it remains current.
Ratings and opinion
Where we rate a company, the rating reflects the author’s opinion at the time of writing, over a stated period, based on information available then. It is not a prediction, an assurance of any outcome, or advice to any individual reader.
Where we discuss what a price might do, we set out a range of outcomes with the reasoning behind each, and what would change the view. Markets do not cooperate with forecasts, and past performance does not indicate future results.
Who writes this
Every article and page is written by Nick Raffoul, who founded the site in 2022. We do not list reviewers or fact-checkers, because the site does not have any, and presenting a masthead larger than the reality would misrepresent how the site works.
How this site is funded
Through affiliate and referral links to brokerages, disclosed on pages that carry them. If you open an account through one, the site may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.
Payment is never accepted in exchange for coverage, for a rating, or for a place on a ranked list, and no company has paid to appear on this site. Affiliate relationships do not determine our editorial conclusions. Should that arrangement ever change, this page will be updated to reflect it.
Accuracy and corrections
We take reasonable care with the information published here, but we do not warrant that it is complete, accurate or current, and we are not liable for decisions taken in reliance on it.
Where we learn that something is wrong, we correct it, and where an error was material to a conclusion we say so rather than quietly amending the text. If you believe something here is inaccurate, please tell us through the contact page.
