Mutual Fund Fee Calculator
See what a fund’s management fee costs you over the years you hold it.
Why this is worth checking
A management expense ratio sounds small and compounds like anything else. The fee is charged on the whole balance every year, including the growth the fee has not yet taken, so the gap between a 2% fund and a 0.2% fund widens for as long as you hold.
Canadian mutual fund fees have historically been among the highest in the developed world, which is the single strongest argument for knowing what yours is.
How this calculator works
Enter the balance, the contributions you plan to make, the years you expect to hold, and the two fee levels you want to compare. The calculator shows the ending value of each and the difference.
Returns are illustrative. Nobody can tell you what a fund will return, but the fee is knowable in advance, which is exactly why it is worth comparing.
